Reminder!
Why it began. . .
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8
The verse that began this writing adventure! It takes me through the Word in many directions. In difficult times it refreshes me, but mostly it inspires me to look for the great and good that God has put into His creation.
Whatever things are true . . . The Bible, God is love! God is all knowing, all present everywhere at once, He cannot lie, He cannot learn, He was at the beginning and knows the end (if there is one)! He knew our comings and goings before we were even born. He even loves those who do not love Him (but I pray you do!). Truth!
Whatever things are noble . . . Character of highest quality . . . A male lion . . . A galloping stallion . . . A warrior in battle . . . A leader with integrity . . . A search and rescue dog on the hunt . . . A humble philanthropist. . . . A kind king.
Whatever things are just . . . A good reputation . . . honesty . . . Having integrity . . . Morally right according to God . . . Righteous.
Whatever things are pure . . . Undefiled . . . Untarnished . . . Pure in heart . . .walking in obedience to God’s Word.
Whatever things are lovely . . . A beautiful sunrise or sunset . . . Fresh green leaves in the spring . . . Swans flying low over the water . . . Eagles crying out in flight . . . A newborn baby . . . An older couple walking hand in hand . . . A wedding . . . Dogwood trees in full bloom . . . Ripe, dark blue elderberries in the fall . . . Snow falling . . . Waterfalls . . . Trillium flowers turning purple . . . Mountains covered in snow.
Whatever things are of good report . . . Compelling . . . Encouraging. . . Uplifting. . .
If there is any virtue . . . Chastity . . . Moral excellence . . . Righteousness. . . Goodness
Anything praiseworthy . . . The presence of God . . . His creation . . . Miracles of salvation . . . Physical and mental healing . . . The miracle of life in a newborn baby . . . The infilling of the Holy Spirit. . . Quiet time amidst a busy day.
Meditate on these things! This is only a smattering of each. As God takes us through life and we do the works that He has planned for us, we will experience so much more to meditate on and praise God for. God is good! My eyes are open to whatever things . . .
