“Be Still”
A hard condition to cultivate
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalms 46:10
Part of being still is focusing on God. It is really the only way for me to achieve that stillness. It reminds me that I am small, but not insignificant to God. Even then my mind hardly stops for more than just that thought. Until I start thinking of heavenly phrases like, “ “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!””Revelation 4:8b, and “And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”” Isaiah 6:3 . Then my mind turns to what heaven might be like. How wonderful it will be to praise God 24/7 without interruption or distraction. That’s how I think heaven will be. Full of the beauty of our Creator and voices praising Him. But it won’t be chaos, it will be melodious and beautiful. Every soul focused only on God and who He is.
How do we achieve that focus in this earthly life? I once worked in a law office where there was one attorney who obviously wanted to have that focus. He had piles of files around his desk and on his desk. But in the middle of his desk was his Bible. It frustrated the senior partners to no end that they would walk in his office just to find him reading that Bible. His legal assistant had to be very diligent in reminding him of filing deadlines because his focus was on the Lord. Somehow he still met his deadlines and court dates. I will never forget him! Even though back then I was not completely focused on the Lord, his diligence in reading the Word impressed me. It still does. And maybe that is how it is done.
“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.”Romans 15:4
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, For in YAH, the Lord, is everlasting strength.” Isaiah 26:3-4
“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah” Psalms 46:1-3
Verses like these remind us that there is peace when we focus on our God, YAH! We can be still and rest in that knowledge.
Thank you, mighty YAH, for your love for us. No matter what is raging around us, in your presence is peace and comfort. I believe that!
What better way for us to think on “whatever things” that are pure, lovely, trustworthy, honorable, true and virtuous . . . These are attributes of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Be still and focus. ❤️🎚️
a poem by Husband, David:
God is Free
He’s free to cause a river to roar and roam
Loud as a lion after the kill,
Deafening and powerful,
As an angry grizzly
Not wanting to share his space.
Build your dreams on the edge
If you dare.
God is free
Unfettered by man’s constraints.
The river will roar
With the power of God,
Fierce, unfettered, free
And shake your soul to believe,
God is free
