I use to have a problem with this verse. How can we be holy? How do we know we are holy? Then, just recently, the light came on and it made so much sense! Why these things take so long for me to understand is a mystery to me. 🤷♀️
Of course! When we become followers of Jesus Christ, we are immediately given the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. Jesus told His disciples before He was crucified, ““If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17
I have written before about how as believers we are in Christ and He is in us. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
So why this ah-ha moment hit me so profoundly, I don’t know.
I know Jesus is holy, and His Holy Spirit is holy, and as followers of Jesus we are the temple of His Holy Spirit. I also know God cannot abide with anyone less than holy, therefore we must be holy! That does not mean we are perfect! Heavens no! It means because we are covered by the shed blood of Jesus, God sees us white as snow and spotless, like Jesus. Holy like Jesus! ““because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”” I Peter 1:16 .
I get it now! Thank you, Jesus, for your shed blood that we did not deserve. For a blessed life we did not earn. For joy unspeakable that Your presence in our lives fills us with.
On this Resurrection Sunday, we are thankful beyond measure. Holy is our Lord and Savior. We long for the day that we will be joining with “The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!””Revelation 4:8
Amen! Lord Jesus, come soon!
